What dental software actually costs in Canada
Every price on this page came off the vendor’s own website, with a link so you can check it. Where a vendor publishes nothing, we say nothing — we don’t recycle third-party estimates, because in this category a lot of them are wrong. In Canada that leaves a very short table: only the two American vendors that publish everywhere will tell you a number.
Published prices, cheapest first
| Software | Deployment | Entry price | Basis | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open Dental | On-premise | $164/month | per location, up to 3 providers | opendental.com |
| Oryx Dental Software | Cloud | $699 CAD/month | includes 2 providers | oryxdental.com |
The 12 that won’t tell you
These publish no figure anywhere on their sites. That is a legitimate commercial choice — enterprise pricing genuinely does vary — but it means you cannot shortlist on budget without booking sales calls first. Note that this is every Canadian-built system we track. The pattern is not a coincidence; it is the market norm here.
- Dentrix — Henry Schein One
- Curve Dental — CD Newco, LLC (backed by Battery Ventures)
- DentiMax — DentiMax
- ABELDent — ABELDent Inc.
- Dentally — Henry Schein One
- Tracker — The Bridge Network Inc. (Ontario)
- ClearDent — Prococious Technology Inc.
- Paradigm — Logic Tech Corp. (Ontario)
- ADSTRA — ADSTRA Systems Inc. (Ontario)
- Dentitek — Progitek Inc. (Quebec)
- MaxiDent — Mint Ops
- Akitu One — Akitu Inc.
The sticker price is not the bill
The cheap end of this market is cheap because it unbundles. Texting, online booking, digital forms and eligibility checks are all separately priced. A worked example, using only each vendor’s own published add-on rates:
Open Dental, one location, three providers
| Support, after year one | $137/mo |
| Fourth provider | $20/mo |
| Published subtotal | $157/mo |
|---|
Open Dental publishes its Canadian eServices rates in USD on the same page, so we do not restate them here as CAD. Add your server, backups and IT support on top.
Everyone else
We cannot build the equivalent table, because no Canadian-built vendor publishes an add-on rate — or a base rate. That is the finding, not a gap in the research.
It also means the trick that works in the US — pricing a cheap on-premise system honestly by adding its published add-ons — is simply unavailable here. You have to get the itemised list out of a salesperson.
One-off costs people forget
- Data conversion. Nobody in this market publishes a figure. Budget four figures and get it in writing before you sign.
- Server hardware, for any on-premise option — plus its replacement cycle.
- Training. Ask what is included and what is billed hourly. In a quote-only market this is where cost hides.
- Claims and transaction fees. Ask specifically about per-claim, per-attachment and per-predetermination charges through CDAnet/ITRANS.
- Per-provider uplifts. Open Dental adds $20/month per provider beyond three; Oryx adds $100 CAD beyond two. Everyone else: ask.
